A Progressive where mostly city class people who had broader interests then Populists, such as correcting corruption in cities and bussinesses. They also wanted to increase living conditions for the slums and reticfy African American rights.
A suffragist is a person who is working forward to a persons' right to vote. Such as womans' suffrage, which istheir right to vote.

The Progressives started in the 1890s. They wanted to make politics more democratic, and were mainly concerned with the issues of farmers. They were much like the populist pert, but had broader interests. Most of them were middleclass people from the Midwest and northeast. This showed that there were more parties coming into American polotics
The Sufragists started in 1890 after Wyoming had became the first state to provide women suffrage. This group was mainly focused on women’s rights. It was started by Susan B. Anthony, Carrie Chapman Catt, and Anna Howard Shaw. This showed that women were starting to have a voice in society.
The Niaraga Movement was formed in 1905 by Dubois. He urged African Americans to not put up with the discrimination, and to start taking jobs that were not at the bottom. This shows that the African Americans were about to have their voice heard. This was the start of African integration.
The National Urban League was founded in 1910 to help African Americans to get new and better jobs. Also this organization was involved in finding housing for African Americans. This was another step toward integration for American society.
The Commission plan was one of the two types of government that the Progressives supported. This plan was to let voters elect a small group of commissioners. Each commissioner would head a government department. They would all would both carry out the legislative and executive duties of the city. This plan was first adopted in Galveston, Texas in 1901 and about 400 cities after that. This shows that there was not just one type of government in the United States.
The Second plan that was backed by the Progressives was the City Manager plan. This plan was also so the voters could elect commissioners, but these commissioners would hire professional managers to run the city. This is just another example of how there was not just one structure of government. This plan was first adopted Staunton, Virginia in 1980, and only about 50 cities adopted this plan.
