3.Eisenhower feared tghat if one nation in asia fell to the communists that the other nations around them would also start to fall under communist rule. This would create a major problem with the united states and eisenhowers domino theory could prove to be true. " knock over the first domino, and what will happen to the last one is that it will go over very quickly" (pg. 804 of our book)

section 2, question 5

eisenhower was very militarily based. truman was very to himself, although he did use the atomic bomb, america just did what they had to do. he just wanted to use 'containment'. eisenhower wanted to become simpilier and stay that way. he did have the cold war during his presidency, which was a tricky perdiciment.

Eisenhower had a much stricter idea of containment than Truman did. Truman wanted to have a government cap on spending on foreign policy. Eisenhower made it5 a bigger priority.

The Soviet launch of Sputnik and the Vanguard failure led America to develop its own space program. Federal money poured into the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)the new government agency in charge of the space program. When the United States succceeded in launching the Explorer satellite in January 1958, the Associated Press reported: "The missile took off in a beautiful launching. It rose slowly at first in a huge splash of flame with a roar that could be heard for miles...." The space race had begun, and the United States soon began pulling ahead.

After the Soveit Union's launch of the space shuttle sputnik, there was an increased interest in science and technology in the United States. Citizens of the United States were worried that they were falling behind and needed to catch up and pass them. They started advance placement programs in school and pushed people to excel in these areas. It was later beneficial because we were the first to land on the moon.
