3.) The geneva accords took place in 1954 and was between the United States, France, Great Britain, the soviet union, communist china, and Vietnam. All these countries met in Geneva, Switzerland to make a peace agreement. This agreement stated that Vietnam would be temporarily divided with ho chi minh's communist nationalists control the north and the non communists would control the south with support from the united states. During this agreement that was not signed by the united states nor south vietnam the united states warned that if north vietnam were to move aggressively towards the south that the united states would step in.

in the mid 1960's America was struggling at winning Vietnam. They were sending an exponential amount of troops over, yet not making much progress at all!

Ho Chi Minh: A Communist who lead the Vietnamese forces in Southeast Asia.
Ngo Dinh Diem: A French educated Vietnamese leader who gained control of the government, who refused to hold elections and had brutal policies.
Lyndon B. Johnson: The president after Kennedy was assassinated and the question of what to do with the unstable infrastructure of Vietnam fell into his lap for him to deal with.
Gulf Of Tonkin Resolution: It gave president Johnson the power to use American forces in Vietnamese territory.

Vietnam was agreed to be split up into two halves. The North would be Communist under Russia while The south would be Controlled by the United states. They would unite Vietnam in 1956 after national elections.

the signs that showed that th USA would have a difficult time winning was that speeches of Ho chi minh and the political turmoil that was going on back here in the states.
